CE Wireless new directive update

As of June 13, 2016, the original R&TTE Directive 1999/5/EC will be repealed, and products that have been evaluated under the old Directive can continue to be sold until June 13, 2017. After June 13, 2017, only wireless devices assessed in accordance with the new RED 2014/53/EU will be allowed to be sold on the EU market.

The purpose of the new directive is to clarify the scope of spectrum use, improve the effectiveness of spectrum use, and make it easier to enforce regulations and market monitoring among member States.

The key differences between the new Wireless Equipment Directive (RED) and the old R&TTE Directive are:

1. RED's product range only includes wireless communication and wireless identification devices (such as RFID, radar, motion detection, etc.). Rf equipment not used for communication or identification will be in the control of electromagnetic compatibility EMC directive and low voltage LVD directive;

2, the wired communication terminal equipment (TTE) is removed, so the RED directive is only applied to wireless products;

3, radio broadcast receivers are now included in the scope of the RED directive (previously covered in the electromagnetic compatibility EMC Directive and low voltage LVD directive);

4. The lower limit of instruction coverage frequency has been cancelled (the previous R&TTE control starting frequency is 9 kHz), while the upper limit is still 3000 GHz;

5. The assessment opinion of the notified body has been replaced by the "Type inspection Certificate";

6, the manufacturer can only use the CE mark with the notified body number (complete quality assurance - Type H) after its quality system has been assessed by the notified body;

(7) The requirement for Class II equipment to notify national spectrum authorities is no longer necessary;

8, the identification (warning number) of the second type of equipment is no longer needed, but the warning that is restricted in some countries still needs to appear on the product packaging;

9, no longer need to appear in the user manual CE mark, but the manual must indicate the frequency band used by the radio frequency and transmission power;

10. The kits for personal evaluation are no longer subject to control (that is, no RED certification is required);

11, the new directive requires the use of a unified charger;

12, the address and contact information of the manufacturer and importer must appear on the device, and can appear in the user manual when the device is too small.
