The EU REACH regulation added 4 new, SVHC updated to 205
Helsinki, 16 January 2019, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) issued a notice that a total of four substances in the 22nd batch are substances of high concern, and the SVHC list is officially updated to 205. Three of these substances are reproductively toxic and one has the potential to cause serious effects on human health and the environment, raising the same level of concern as carcinogenic, mutagenic and reproductively toxic (CMR), persistent, biocumulative and toxic (PBT) and very persistent and biocumulative (vPvB). This batch of substances included in the SVHC list: diisohexyl phthalate, 2-benzyl-2-dimethylamino-1 -(4-morpholinophenyl) butyl ketone, 2-methyl-1 -(4-methylthiophenyl) -2-morpholino-1-acetone, perfluorobutane sulfonic acid (PFBS) and its salts. An equivalent level of concern with potentially serious effects on human health (article 57 (f) - Human health) is used as a catalyst/additive/reactant in polymer production and chemical synthesis. It is also used as a flame retardant for polycarbonate (used in electronic devices). Shangdu reminds companies that when products contain SVHC substances, and the content exceeds 0.1%, they will need to notify ECHA or transfer information in the supply chain, as detailed in the interpretation of SVHC high concern substance requirements. Within 6 months from now, if the concentration of a single SVHC in the mass percentage of the article exceeds 0.1%, and the annual export volume is greater than 1 ton, the obligation to notify ECHA must be completed.
