【Introduction to W270 Certification】
The German DVGW organization (German Gas and Water Association) has established the W270 regulation to ensure that products in contact with drinking water do not adversely affect human health in terms of microbiology. This is also known as DVGW W270 certification, which mainly concerns the microbiological requirements for products in contact with drinking water, protecting drinking water from biological contamination. The latest W270 standard is DIN EN 16421 method 2.
W270, like KTW, requires an initial assessment of the formulation components to meet the requirements of the German positive list before testing can begin. If the formulation assessment fails, the laboratory will provide rectification suggestions, and the client can continue to submit the formulation for review. If the formulation review result is qualified, the probability of the product passing the migration test is greatly increased, which can minimize costs for the client. As of March 21, 2021, all W270 test certificates will become invalid, and future W270 testing will only be a report.
【W270 Certification Process】
A. The client submits a written application to Shangdu Company and provides accurate product information, including but not limited to product drawings, product manuals, product uses, product characteristics, etc.;
B. Document review, confirmation of fees and certification cycle, and both parties sign a service contract;
C. Formulation review (the laboratory can sign a confidentiality agreement with the client), requiring the supplier to cooperate in providing further raw material formulations;
D. Sample type testing;
E. If the test is qualified, a test report will be issued (test certificates will no longer be issued after March 21, 2021).
【What is the W270 cycle and validity period?】
W270 testing usually takes 4-5 months, so companies should apply as early as possible to avoid affecting product sales.
The recommended validity period for the W270 report is 5 years, with re-testing every 5 years.
Note: If your product applies for both KTW and W270 testing, only one formulation review is required.
